Chess + Math Camp
Let your little girl boss get acquainted with the beautiful world of mathematics as she sharpens her chess abilities.
Chess + Math Camp is designed to foster critical thinking skills by introducing experiential math concepts that stretch beyond the classroom. She’ll also have the opportunity to play chess against other like-minded girls and improve her chess skills in a friendly, empowering environment.
This camp is perfect for girls with an interest in STEM. Rather than writing down and memorizing equations, your daughter will learn to understand the concepts of mathematics and their applications in real world scenarios. Some topics that will be covered include: the concept of infinity, an introduction to formal logic, and how artificial intelligence is used in the world’s most powerful chess engine.
This camp is recommended for girls between the ages of 10 and 13, who already understand the basics of chess. If your daughter hasn’t learned how to play yet, we recommend that she completes Chess Camp for Beginners before participating in this camp.
Chess + Math Camp, like all of our camps, takes a holistic approach to improving your daughter’s confidence and critical thinking through chess. We’re here to help facilitate her making smart moves on and off the board.
Week-long Camp: Camp will be held daily, Monday to Friday, online through Zoom. Choose between morning or afternoon camps:
Morning Camp: 9:00 am to 12:30 pm EST
Flexible Registration: You can sign up for as many weeks as you’d like. Camps run all summer.

Description of Daily Classes
Monday: What is infinity? What are the different types of infinity? And where do we apply and see the concept of infinity in real life?
Tuesday: What does the word "exponential" mean? Where can we see and apply this concept? We will also look at a famous problem known as "Rice on a Chessboard" to help illustrate this concept.
Wednesday: Logic is where math, philosophy and language all converge. Here we'll explore "formal logic" and deduction. We'll also learn to present our thoughts using logical operators.
Thursday: What are statistics? And how do people manipulate them? Continuing on the theme of critical thinking we established yesterday, we will look at what makes statistics accurate and valuable.
Friday: Stockfish and Google AlphaZero are some of the world's most powerful chess engines. They use decision trees and artificial intelligence. Here we will learn about the difference between the two, and the applications of these technologies outside of chess.
